The New Limb is one of our favorite up-and-coming bands right now, and their latest single “Refugees” is AMAZING.
We liked this song from the start, but after reading The Hunger Games,we decided that it should be the unofficial anthem of the story (especially the 2nd book).
Love it, Hunger fans? Anyone else joining us at midnight for opening night?
While you wait in line, listen to this song and get pumped!
REWIND.REPEAT.
Ladies and gents, get excited to see Banana Phonetic at No Pulp tonight!
Hailing from Boston, they’ll be traveling to NYC to make their debut with No Pulp at Arlene’s Grocery on Wed. 1/25.
Banana Phonetic released The Facts Of Evolution, a 5-track, melodic, multi-instrumental, sophomore EP, just 6 months ago and we’re pretty much obsessed with it. Take a listen below!
Banana Phonetic is: Akhil Bhatt, Andy Bickerton, Sam Doty, Tom Mangan & David Nyman. These five super-talented guys are inspired by bands such as We love The Flaming Lips, My Morning Jacket and Deerhunter, and incorporate vocals, guitar, keys, bass, drums, banjo, mandolin, trumpet, mellotron, ukulele, and harmonica into their records and live show.
If you’re in NYC tonight, we hope you can make it! Here are the details for the show:

Self-titled albums are one thing. But when a band names one of its songs after itself — or, alternately, when a band names itself after one of its songs — it’s a pretty big deal. The song itself comes off looking something like a mission statement, an encapsulation of everything that the band means. When Bad Company names a song “Bad Company,” they want you to know that this song is what they’re all about.
Not too many bands have been brave enough to attempt this trick throughout history. For some reason, a lot of the bands who did attempt it were either metal or hardcore. We’ve collected 20 of them below, and some of them are pretty great. We’ve weeded out all the songs that are only partially named after the groups, which means we’ve weeded out some more pretty great songs. Honorable mentions include Queen’s “Killer Queen,” the Clash’s “This Is Radio Clash,” Big Country’s “In A Big Country,” the Stray Cats’ “Stray Cat Strut,” Das-EFX’s “They Want EFX,” Nas’s “Nas Is Like,” Refused’s “Refused Are Fucking Dead,” Wilco’s “Wilco (The Song),” and of course the Monkees’ “(Theme From) The Monkees.”
Check out our selections and stream the songs below. And in the comments section, let us know what we forgot:

Yet another year-end “Best Of” list! Who knew NY Mag was so…into indie? Weird thing is, they call the list the “The Year In Pop.” Hmmph.
(/via Prefix):
New York Magazine has jumped in on the listmaking party that’s been happening around the net (peep ours next week!), naming their top ten albums of 2011. Their list has some picks that have been everywhere (Destroyer, PJ Harvey, Tune-Yards), mixed in with some more left field choices (Colin Stetson, Shabazz Palaces, Nicolas Jaar). Nice shoutout to Kendrick Lamar, and that number one pick of Austra is pretty bold.

(/via NPR):
Given that it was compiled by a score of NPR Music staffers and public radio DJs, and that it spans more than a dozen genres and embraces artists both well-known and brand-new, one might reasonably wonder what principle ties together this list of our favorite albums of 2011. How about this: They’re the albums that opened our ears to something new, ones that we enjoyed from beginning to end, ones that challenged us, ones we fought over and treasured quietly. Most of all, they’re the albums that made us hand our headphones over a cubicle wall and say, “You have to listen to this.” We’re thrilled now to be able to hand them to you with the hope that you fall just as deeply for something you discover on these pages.

Is there anything better than year-end lists? Maybe a few things. Many music blogs, magazines, and companies are starting to poll the online audience to sum up their best and worst votes for their year-end lists. Here’s one of the best from Billboard! Some of the questions are pretty fun (like “best controversy”), and others just question your music preferences. You should vote if you have a few minutes!
(/via Billboard):
December is upon us and that means another year in music is coming to a close. The past 12 months have certainly had their share of notable moments, both awesome and awful. With the 2011 nearly in the books, it’s your turn to decide the most memorable songs, albums, performances and videos in our Billboard.com Year In Music Awards.
What song that topped the Hot 100 was your favorite? Which up-and-coming artist had the biggest breakthrough? Who was the most overrated musician of 2011? While we’ve offered a few suggestions of our own, but feel free to write in a candidate. Cast your vote until the poll closes at midnight on December 8. We’ll announce all of the winners the week of December 12, 2011 on Billboard.com.
